I have a 10 inch LRS recurve. It does a great job, but I still experience turbulence behind the WS. It makes my goatee slap me in the eyes if I don't tie it. What the WS does is keep the wind from directly hitting my face. And I can prove it works. With my 6 inch straight WS, I can't hear my stereo at all at 70 mph+, but I have no problem hearing with the recurve.
I don't think you can ever completely overcome the wind with a batwing. But a good WS will certainly help.

Default Another wind buffeting post but.....

Just yesterday there was another post on this subject, but after reading many of the responses I went out to my bike and put the fairing deflectors back on and closed the vents on the lowers. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

So here's the deal. I own a convertible. An Ultra with a detachable King Tour Pak. When I know I'm goin' be solo for awhile I remove the TP, put on a sick C&C custom solo seat with fender bib and change out the windshield with a LRS 7" Ultra Shield. So I recently went into Solo Mode and over the weekend took a 5 hour ride. In the seat for well over 4 of the 5 hours. I was pretty beat up after the ride and once again attributed it to the shorter windscreen. After reading the post mentioned above, I went out last night and put the fairing wings back on and simply closed the vents on the lowers. The difference on my ride to work this morning, at highway speeds, was amazing. Simply putting back on the fairing shields and closing the lower vents made a night and day difference. The height of the shield is important, no doubt, but it is only one factor in the equation. I am 5'10" and when sitting tall in the saddle just see over the top of the shield but can easily "slouch" in the saddle and see thru it. Either way the buffeting is markedly reduced with the wings on and lower vents closed.
Since my wife is not enojoying the rides much anymore I may end up being solo more often and the "street glide convertable" is much more comfortable now that I have learned this simple lesson.

I did get the Klockwerks, only taken it out once but it does make a difference. Still get eind from down below though.

I did see a wind baffle that mounts on the tree, right where the 2 brake lines meet and mount.

Anyone have any experience with this ?

The chrome fork baffle does help some. I didn't notice a lot of difference though.

Opening and closing the lowers makes a big difference. The wings on the sides of the bat wing make most of the difference. I keep them closed most of the time unless I just have to have a little more wind.
I would always make sure they were closed when I was smoking for sure.

I like my Clearview recurve. Got it 2 inches shorter than stock. Better forward vision and good wind control.

I do have the wings for the sides of the Batwing, don't have them on right now though,
mine are solid, not adjustable. When you say closed, I assume that means they are tight to the faring... i.e., not tilted to allow some wind through, is that correct ?
If so, I guess the none adjustable ones would be considered closed, so I'll try them.

Check out ClarksCusomshields. Their wide windshields work great for a little more side protection and they look good on the batwing.

I've had one on my 07 for 45k miles and recently removed it since it has been so hot here and thought maybe the engine needed more air. I took it off just before a 1500 mile run without a road test and couldn't wait to put it back on when I got home. My t-shirt was fluttering with the extra wind and my eyes definetly noticed the wind coming up from the front of the tank. They use to come stock with them but I guess the new bikes run so Hot that HD figures the engine gets more air without them. I think it directs more air down over the engine vs. up in my eyes but don't have a wind tunnel to test, LOL. They come in Black as well as Chrome.

I'm allergic to bees so I like as much protection as I can get (hate that ambulance ride). I have a Clark 14", lower triple tree deflector, adjustable fairing deflectors and non vented lowers. Still, blows my hair into my eyse sometimes but pretty good. The lowers really made a difference even over the fork deflectors.
