Default engine light

Ok.... I crank the bike.... it fires up, the engine light is on.. I notice the volt guage is right under 12.... I rev it up a little... the volt guage goes to 14.. light goes out.... stays at 14 through out the ride.

I replaced the battery when I noticed it the first time, it would pull down to 10 v and a touch slow to start.. pulled and checked battery with a load tester.. went to yellow meaning it was on it's way out... I put the new battery in... fires up better.. still the same thing with the light and reving it up....

any body else run into this?

I have an 09 SG. Just had to replace the battery about a month ago. Just started noticing the when I turn my bike on the engine light goes out when the fuel pump is ready, starts up fine, then about 2 seconds latter the engine light comes back on for about 5 seconds? Never saw this before?? Will try reving it up tonight.

Mine did the same thing right after the voltage regulator was replaced. Replaced the stator and now it doesn't do it anymore.

Yeah... .stator is what I was thinking also...... Or was trying not to think. Hopefully since it charges 14 as soon as you rev it and stays there, it will work on my ride.

herd there was a recall coming out for the 2012 street glide for the voltage regulator. My engine and battery light came on the other day. Call the harley dealer and said they just got a service bulletin. Now my bike is parked till Wednesday first day they can get me in and fix it.

The light coming on is a signal to check for a service code. Ought to be instructions in your owners manual. Get a service manual, if'n ya don't already have one, and sit down and read all about it. May save ya headaches later.

Sounds just like the issue that I had last summer and it turned out to be the voltage regulator on my 2007 FLHTC. I had the battery replaced, then the voltage regulator and things worked out well until I took it on a trip to the Ozarks and the light came on again, then went off. I stopped at Toad Suck Harley Davidson and they did a system check and said all is well. On the way back to Mt. View the light came back on and stayed on. I put it on a trailer and came back home. Turned out to be the new voltage regulator had went bad. Other post on this forum said there was a problem with some of the replacement regulators as well as the regulators on the newer scooters.
Don't wait till the second day of of a three day trip to address an issue that is going on before you leave home.
