really? thats your solution, to quit? how your body reacts to heat is not something that you can just 'man up' over. are you just too proud to be comfortable in the heat? or do you think it makes you look 'badder' to not take heat mitigation steps?

soak a tshirt in water and in a short time, its dry again, so it isn't like your whole ride is spent being a drowned rat.

dickey, my wife does not do heat well. not that she doesn't want to, she just can't. so her bike spends more time in the garage in the summer than on the road. but come winter, doesn't matter if its 10* out, she's out riding.

Nice
I am talking about when you are on a trip averaging 500 or more miles a day, not the 40 mile romp to the bar.
When on a trip you ride whatever weather you are in. Cold, rain, hot you ride. People that saw us do this never have or thought of it. I thought I would pass this on here so maybe someone can have a more comfortable and safe ride/ trip.
Milwaukee to Seattle was hot, 95 to low 100's. Eastern Washington was actually the coolest part of ride because of rain and it usually is the hottest.
The PCH was the only cooler part of trip. South of San Francisco started heading east and was hot all the way. Took a couple days off from riding in Scottsdale.

Scottsdale to Milwaukee was hot but our method of staying comfortable worked for us.
Trip was just over 6000 miles in two weeks, hopefully others can say the same thing.

I wear hydration vests and a mesh jacket.

I actually have a long ride through the desert tomorrow and I will wear the hydration vest and mesh jacket as usual but this time I am going to try wearing an off road motorcycle jersey under it all instead of a cotton t-shirt or the Underarmor/heat gear shirts.

best way to cool off is 3 beers......one under each arm pit and one in the hand.....opened....and ready to drink......no joke try it....quickest core temp cool off around.
Dont drink and drive

give your buddies the "armpit beers" when they warm up.....and dont mention a thing

I live in the land of heat. I use a Colorado Cool Vest under a mesh jacket. That's about as good as it gets.

WOW! You guys are harsh! I've been soaking myself on hot days on long trips for almost forty years. Sometimes the t-shirt and head wrap, sometimes the whole body if I can find a hose. WTF! You're dry in 30 minutes or so anyway and it feels good for a few minutes. OP, soak your shirt and anything else you want. I just rode Wisconsin to Florida and back Fourth of July week, all week over 100 degrees, two days 109 and road temps pegged the gauge at 120. You can bet your *** I soaked myself as often as I could. Even saw a guy who had a bag of ice strapped up to his handlebars, had poked holes in it so as it melted it blew cold water back on him. Said he could get about an hour out of a bag of ice........ so, whatever it takes, just enjoy your ride ........

Love that line! Only I don't think Eastwood said it. I think it was his buddy Fletcher that betrayed in Outlaw Josey Wales.

There's another old saying, Senator: Don't **** down my back and tell me it's raining

Wet t-shirt and bandana work fine for me. I especially like it when the girls use the wet t-shirt technique to cool off.

So question. Does the mesh jacket over a wet shirt cool you better than just a wet shirt by itself?? Ive done local rides in the heat and been fine but fixin to take out on a 1300 mile ride in 100 degree temps has me thinking a bit more.

I've always had good look with the motocross type longsleeves too for keeping the sun off. Plus they let lots of cool air in. I bought a plain white one from somewhere, can't remember where
