Default Rider backrest

I have a 2010 EG Classic, FLHTC, looking at rider back rest and adjustable mount. Is there a reason (I know the bike is wider and taller than pre 09) that I cannot use a kit from a pre 09? Seems I read somewhere that there is an inexpensive part to allow pre 09 to fit 09+? Is that accurate or no? Do I have to stick with the 09+ kit/part#? Thanks.

Somebody on here made a little front mount that they modified a piece that they bought from home depot or lowe's. Might take a little searching, but it's in one of these threads.

Looks like the only difference may be the holes in the bracket that holds the adjustment lever--if so, then I probably have a pre-2009 on my 2011.

I picked up an adjustable backrest used, only issue with it was that the holes in the bracket for the adjustment lever didn't line up with the holes in the frame. I marked where a hole should be on the bracket, drilled and then tapped the hole in the bracket, then put the screw through the frame and into the bracket--didn't need the little clip nut, and holds it pretty good (hasn't budged in over 10k miles).

Hmmmm, so the actual mounting bracket for the seat fit fine? I have talked with 2 dealers who said pre 09 won't work on 09+....Of course they want to sell us new but I dunno....diff part numbers for sure.
