You have to buy the docking hardware

I see that I need the docking hardware but it shows 4 point or 2 point on either I will only be using 2 points on that mount right? Where does the front dock to?

What are you riding? There are plates that bolt to the sides and they have on them where the detachable back rest latches to. Buy the kit and the instructions will explain in detail how it mounts. I just had to take my bags off and put the kit on, took me about one hour and I go slow. I am not sure about the wide tire fat boy though. If you want a detachable tour pack then you need 4 point, if you just want the back rest then just 2 point.

Here are the installation instructions. You need 4 docking points for a backrest (2 on each side).

I ride a 2012 streetglide I think that clears it all up. I figured the rear of the backrest attached to the docking kit and the front attached to the upper shock mounts.

No, there are 2 points on each side and 4 on each side if you want a removeable tourpack, hence 2 point and 4 point. Is not hard to do.

If all you are adding is the backrest, then you just need the 2-point docking hardware.

You are correct, the front attached to the upper shock mounts.
The rear attaches to the docking points.

If you want to use a backrest and luggage rack combined, then you will need the 4-poing docking hardware.

The backrest attaches just like the 2-point, and the luggage rack uses all 4 points on the 4-point docking hardware.

I am not sure if the backrest from a Fatboy (Softail model) is going to fit your touring model though.
