Changing air filter
or I use the Ness Big Sucker, about $120 shipped on ebay from easternpc.
-chrome backing plate version which better complements the chrome and black motor. ( unlike the cast grey S/E)
- has a washable oiled filter media which is reusable ( similar to but not K&N brand)
- easy install, gas tank and throttle body brace stay in place unlike the S/E.
- uses stock "football" cover, which hides the throttle body servo plug and wiring at 7 o'clock on the throttle body
It terms of "performance" almost any aftermarket air cleaner will flow more air than your motor could ever use.

One thing you can do is get the cheapest SE AC (the cast grey one), get some Hi Temp flat black spray paint and paint it before you install it. I did this 2 years ago and it still looks like the day I did it. It blends into the motor very well.

I am just the opposite. I started with the FM back plate, but took it off and went with the SE. I prefer the the crankcase vent through the casting on the SE instead of retaining the short rubber hoses.
I guess I was wrong, thought they were the same.
If you use the hd SE backplate remember to save and not throw out the bracket that presently is used on the stock backplate. You won't need it with the SE system but you will need it if you ever decide to go S&S. Ask me how I know. Just save it.
