I currently own a dyna. I went to a dealer the other day looking at a road king or street glide. He told me to test a road glide as well. I never thought I'd ride one of those things. The fairing was a big turn off. However, after putting 12 miles on it, I really started to like it. So now I'm torn between the Road Glide and Street Glide. Any of you experience touring guys have any opinions on wich bike and why? I'm looking to buy in the next few weeks.
Road Glide is the better bike for full blown touring. But if you like the styling of the SG, why not test ride an Ultra? Similar looks, better for touring.
Or go back to your first plan and just select the KING!
However, after putting 12 miles on it, I really started to like it.
........ imagine your level of like after 12 hundred miles.
.... but i'm not sayin' get a roadglide, it bein' a Secret Society & all
...... maybe coming from a Dyna, you'd be more comfortable starting on the King, ....you can always put a batwing on it later.
....... leave them roadglides to to those folk who think nuthin of going a hundred miles for breakfast
I have a SG and like it, but there are many reasons to go with a RG. The main difference I have seen is at highway speeds, the frame mounted fairing works damn well. The wind buffetting is almost non exisitent on the RG vs the SG.

Naaa ... I went from a Dyna to an Electraglide Classic. There's no need to buy a Road King before you move up to a bike with a fairing unless it's a Road King you want. If you have decided to go touring, get what you want. You'll get used to either one pretty quick.
A King, RG or SG would be a very nice upgrade from your Dyna. I traded an '04 Wide Glide for my '10 SG. Night and day difference between the Dyna and touring frame.
