2008 FLHTC in the Dealership for some oil leaks and noises. I have the Harley extended plan. 50.00 Deductable.
Dealer calls and give me the info, jug base gaskets leaking, stator plug leaking, clutch hub basket bad and bearing.
It will not cover cleaning and honing the jugs. Deal says $285.00 for new rings and a hone.
I say to do it, why not your in there. Bike have 48,000 miles..
Would you guys do the rings or leave them alone ?
Once I disturb rings I change them, and you need to hone to get a new surface to seat in the rings. If they are too aggressive with the hone. You only want to break the glaze, you could end up a little oversize and start using a little more oil than you are used to. Might not be much more for an upgrade. Say some 103 jugs, pistons. That's what I would do.
I agree with CurtisO. If it was me I would spend the money and bore the cylinders with new pistons and rings and you will have new piston to bore tolerences and after break-in your oil consumption should be nil. Retuning will be necessary to compensate for the bore increase.
