My HK is starting to have trouble, just going to go aftermarket. Few questions though, Does the hand controls still work? volume? Mode? seek? does is still volume down with your speed? I have hogtunes amp and speakers, will they still work?? Sorry to hi jack but these are prolly common questions.

48000 trouble free miles and we use the hell out of it . Did the BOOM speakers and bass booster ports but we always use headsets on long trips. Handlebar mounted controls cb and intercom, what's not to love!

I forgot to add, the auxilary input for navi and mp3 works seamlessly, does everything i need it to do through many torrential downpours

No problem with mine. It actually sounds better than I expected considering the listening environment. I added the Garmin 665 with Sirius/XM. Use it all the time.

My installer added a kit to keep the handlbar controls. The AVC however, does NOT work.

+1 definitely upgrade to the BOOM with the amp. Worth every penny.

Hogwired and Biketronics make kits to install about any aftermarket radio and have the hand controls work. There are also generic wiring kits. The HK unit is fine for most folks but I wouldn't replace it because the cost/features/quality available in the aftermarket just blow it away. I'm sure your amp and speakers can be hooked up too if ya want to keep them.

I've replaced mine under warranty once, if it does crap out and you are still in warranty and you want to go aftermarket get it replaced first so you can sell it to offset some of your costs
