I have wondered multiple times: with the drop in LED prices if it would be possible to do a DIY tail light modification with easy to obtain auto store parts that would be plug and play...some kind of set-up that would plug into original socket and then a bar that could be loaded with removable/replaceable and readily available LED bulbs facing both backwards and forward (light plate and reflector) and all of it fitting inside the lens.
For example a #1157 bulb uses about 21 watts max during braking..LED using a minimal fraction of that number so overloading would not be a problem...The key would be to make it inexpensive (less than $40), reliable and an easy DIY.
i got tired of waiting on bal to come up with something for us roadglide custom/street glide guys that do not have the large brake light on the fender, so i went with the custom dynamics 'magic brake light flasher'. it doesn't increase the intensity of your lights, but does have programmable flash patterns. at around $40, well worth it, in my opinion.
Hyperlites makes an ad on which is fairly reasonably priced and gives you a couple of different options. I had been looking at these for my metric before trading and getting my Ultra.
