Question Overheat or Normal?

Recently my 11 FLHX (103CI) started to act weird. After I ride it for a non-stop 100 miles or so during a hot weather (101f) the engine idle drops down and the engine turns off so often while take off. and then I smell some carbon after it turns off. also it takes 4 of 5 cranks to start the bike after that (more than usual). the bike is well serviced and maintained and I'm using Screamin Eagle oil. I've checked the oil level and it was low on a quart. so is it an overheat issue or is it normal?

Thanks in advance.

You should be checking your oil at the start of every ride driving in your environment! Also you might want to run a 60 weight oil in that type of heat.

That seems to be the norm for a lot of the Harley here of late. Look at some other posts about this same problem.

My bike is hard to start when I ride it hard then shut it down. I'm curious as to why as well.
It's not an oil issue.

If you say so. But I'm not gonna check my oil every day.

Sounds like your emts is kicking in making you go on one cylinder. It's supposed to go back to two cylinders the moment you throttle up. The smell from idling on one jug is normal. Read your owners manual. It explains the system, how it works, how to shut it off and on.

I check my oil before & after each ride along with my tires! Its part of the pre-ride check!

Sounds like a bit of heat soak.

Glad to hear it.

I ride every day. A couple times a day. I check my oil monthly give or take. I use very little. I doubt if I'd see much difference if I checked twice a day. But hey, if it makes you feel good...

as I checked from many sources they say the Screamin Eagle is a light oil of a kind so it makes the engine runs cooler and smoother but in return you'll get more noise out of the engine. also I heard changing from one oil type to another (varies in viscosity) is bad for all kinds of engines. so is that true?

Any drop in the oil level after a long ride (quart to half a liter) considered as normal. as long as the drop isn't more than half a liter. during long rides and/or high RPM the oil evaporates through the breather so if anybody didn't notice that open your breather and you'll see some old oil inside the breather cover. so you have to check your oil level from time to time (preferred after every long ride) to make sure that you don't go under half a liter to full. and that applies to all types of oil cooled engines. as well as the water cooled engines but in smaller amounts of oil drop.

anyways the issue that I'm having is normal as some guys said over here. so thank you guys. all of you.
