While checking my air lines for leaks, I removed my detachable backrest and the black hinged locks just fell to the ground. Lost the bolts somewhere along the last few thousand miles. Checked my detachable luggage rack and they were loose too. HD doesn't put any thread locker on those parts.
Be safe and take them apart and put some loctite on. Don't want to lose your luggage goin down the road.
Guess I missed the point/part, mine have held together for about 8000 miles but I will check them to be on the safe side.
while those certainly look like a good thing, the pivot bolt is what the op lost. and it appears that the pivot bolt on these could just as easily back out.
