I listened to the Drangonfly system at Sturgis Wednesday and was blown away by the Focal speakers and the Arc Audio amp they were using. Sound was amazing. Anyone know the cheapest place to pick this combo up? Thanks in advance for any leads u may have!
Have you checked around your area? The Focal brand in most places are expensive, period. You are going to pay for top of the line. Your best bet is to look on EBay to see if you can catch someone selling them on there.
Crutchfield is an authorized on-line retailer. The BEST in customer service but you pay more. Sonic Electronix a good non authorized dealer and any issues need to be resolved by them with no help from Focal. Just remember tho that stationary sound is a lot better than 65+mph mobile sound. Agree that they would be a nice combo tho ...
Yeh i'm sure they sounded better out of a box they had made specifically for them at the show. I was just amazed at the sound. They wanted $1650 installed and i think a fella can pick up all the goodies for close to $1000. Now to think if i wanna spend that much. Thanks fellas
I like Crutchfield. You pretty much pay full price there but you will not find a better company to deal with.
Don't spend too much on speakers. Even Focal has its limits on what they can do on a motorcycle which is not the best environment for a stereo.
I don't know what an install job would cost, but the parts should top out at around $700 and you can do much better than that. Arc sells their amp for around $325 but you are paying a lot of extra money buying from them with no bonus to it, they have about the worst warranty and customer service ever. I'd buy used or online for about half that. Focal prices go way up but on a bike at 80 mph you will not know the difference between $300 and $600 speakers. So don't go over board on them. I have the Focal Performance PS 165 component speakers, they sound very nice, I have no complaints. They cost about $400 at Crutchfield. In the past I had the Focal Polyglass 165 VB speakers which were about $100 less and I cannot tell the difference in the sound. Both sound very good. Which is much better than any other speaker I have tried.
I went to the local Focal dealer to listen to some IS 165 components. When I got there the salesman said although they're still a dealer, they don't stock them anymore. He tried hard to get me into some JL Audio/Hertz speakers but I just wasn't interested. He actually started to bad mouth the Focals so that's when I left the store. I'm in the process of doing a tweeter swap/relocate on my current set-up and I'll see how that goes before I start thinking of spending some more $$ on audio ...
