Default Highway Pegs Installation

I know this topic has been covered in various posts but I can't seem to get the answer I'm looking for and it is hard to tell from pictures. I have the HD long angled peg mounts (on 08 Ultra) with the flame footpeg kit and I'm trying to decide how far above the floorboards the highway peg shoud be and how far in toward the bike. I thought I had them right but they just don't feel right on the highway. I know that there is personal choice involved so I'm interested in your choice of position so I can try some different methods.
Also I notice from some of the pictures on this site that some bikes have the peg folded up when not in use. Is this possible with the mounts I have?

I have my pegs maybe about 6" above footboard level and I have short legs so they are angled back towards me. It's pretty much however you want to I would guess.

As for folding them up, looking at a picture of your mount, yes you should be able to fold them up.

EDIT: Re-reading your post...I have mine angled far enough out so I can sit comfortable with my feet on the pegs with my knees slightly bent, but close enough where I can straighten my legs completely and rest the back of my boots on top of the pegs...if that makes sense.

I wrapped the highway bars in duct tape & attached the pegs over the duct tape. Rode the bike, adjusted, repeat.
Once I got them in the desired positions I removed the duct tape - no scratched chrome...

i did the samething but with clear tape, then cut the tape and left it under the clamp.

I set my pegs up just high enough so I can rest my heel on the floorboards and the top of my boots resting against the highway pegs.

At 6 inches that would put them above your brake pedal. Mine are now halfway between the floorboard and the brake pedal. I have them in close to the lowers at about 3/4". I'l try them higher like yours and see what they feel like. Thanks...

That is what I wanted to do, however, when I look down I see my toe on the peg mount rather than the peg. Perhaps it is just a case of getting used to the positioning.

Damn dude. Unless you've got a long lost twin on the forum that you are trying to get an answer from, we don't know. Go for a ride, stretch your legs out to what feels right, look down. When you get home put the pegs there, go for a ride, adjust. Like you said, it is all personal preference. I'm sure I've adjusted mine several dozen times. I've brought a wrench with me on more than one occasion and made several stops adjusting.

I'll tell you this though: DO NOT adjust them so you can hang your ankle over the peg. More specifically that spot behind your ankle and just above you heal. No matter how tempting or comfortable it may seem. That's how you get the biker limp. No fun and very painful from what I've been told.

I lifted my FLHX on the J&S jack, worked the mounts/angle to my preference, locked them down & haven't changed since. This was the easiest/best method that worked for me.
