Default New Vibrations

I'm definitely not of the paranoid type when it comes to harleys, and prefer to do my own wrenchin' but something just isn't right. It seems my 08 FLHX has developed a significant increase in floor board vibration and noticeably more engine vibes at around 2000-2200RPMs. It's almost as if my feet will shake off the boards at 2KRPM. In the past it used to seem buttery smooth when I'd roll on the throttle. Now it seems to increase in vibes, but smooth out a bit at 3K. Any thoughts on what to check first? I've already got the velva-ride a year ago, so stock front mount is still good. I do ride hard and travel the bumpiest roads daily, so I'm in fear of the scissored crank.

Your thoughts...

If your sure it's consistent with the motor's rpm I would take it to a indy and have them look at the run-out. I looked in to that 2 years ago and it was about $80. If I was going to keep the bike it would be worth it to me for piece of mind...Good luck.

+1 on checking the runout. It seems the 2007+ cranks are more prone to runout issues. I have the same issue with my 2012 SG with 5k miles.

Oh my god your crank has shifted these piece of **** cranks harley is using in the things are junk. I am afraid to even start mine. I am afraid the starter will slip the crank. You have to run the magic oil and all that stuff in these bikes they are real rocket science. What ever you do do not lug it never hit the back brake and the crank want slip oh and be sure you have the right oil. I would doubt you crank is the problem. This crank **** about run out beats all i ever seen something came loose. I got .007 run out on mine so if the crank goes from .000 to .007 means you only are out .0035 from center and mine could not be any smoother unless i hit the kill switch. Look for things like mufflers shifting back and bottoming out on saddle bag mounts stuff like that. I had a 07 streetbob that the tranny sounded like crap and got pissed off and said what ever is making all the noise is coming out and was running 80mph in 6th gear and just started stomping the shifter down back to 1st gear rear wheel hopping of the ground 2 to 3 inches sliding making all kinds of noise and never slipped the crank. I grafted the IDS rear pulley on to it and fixed the problem smooth as glass tranny was perfect no vibrations and the best harley i ever owned. Here is a pic of the IDS on a Dyna. These things are more simple than a Briggs you will find the problem and it want be the crank. Here road glide is what i ride now with the .007 out crank and is smooth as glass

So in your case it was the piece of **** rear pulley. Glad to hear it wasn't your crank. Your piece of **** was cheaper to fix than my piece of ****. What a relief. I'm happy for you.

Nope my roadglide has .007 run out on the crank. On the dyna it had a noise in the tranny i was talking about how i treated the dyna and did not hurt the crank. A perfect crank would be nice and i am saying my RG has the run out and it is smooth as butter. These press fit cranks have been around way before harley used them and they are not made of glass they are stronger than people think. Dont get me wrong you can slip one but it is harder than people think and i do know .007 run out is silky smooth.
