cruise control ,did it myself but sort of wish it was under warrenty+little stressful to add.I would hold off on detach-almost had that done but I dont think ile use now?? wait and see if I were you. Paint and engine mods are really going to be your main concern. imo

I was thinking the King Tour Pak andthe docking Two Up rack for starters. I think if the passengers were more comfortable, maybe disappearing on the bike when the lawn really needs cutting wouldn't be such a big deal. Do you find that the driving lights make that much difference?

What about mechanically? Are there certain things that a lot of guys are doing in the first year anyway?
The King Tour Pack will give you a lot of space to take a trip away on the bike. I do not drive a lot at night, but when I do the driving lights do help out a lot. I can really see the differance when I turn them off to see what the differance is. I would also go with a Stage 1 A/C as someone said above too.

Like it has been said many, many times in other posts, we do what we want to our bikes to personalize them to make them ours. I can have my King Tour Pack on and off the bike in a matter of minutes. I still have the lines and styling of the Street Glide.

Buy extra stuff and putting that stuff on is all part of owning a Harley.

I just put in the order for my 07 SG in cobalt. Since it won't be built until April and delivered (hopefully) in May, I have about a month to pick any factory/dealer installed options so that they get covered under the two year warranty. So my question is this:

I've got about $3000-4000 CAD (that's about $11 US)that the "aftermarket-installed counter-balance weight" (wife) has approved for me to spend. I don't want to burn it up on chrome that I can install myself, so I want to know what others have done, or wish they had, when they ordered theirs. For example, I don't want to be saying "I really wish I had the PCIII instead of blowing the cash on those flame grips and chrome primary cover." I'm sure I'll get around to all the dress, but what would you guys suggest for the initial order? Are there mechanical upgrades that should be done pre-delivery? This bike is for cruising/touring, not for speed or torque, so big bores and such don't really interest me.

Greg

I've had my SG for seven weeks now and am proud to report that out of perhaps $2000 in accessories, maybe $50 of it is on chrome do-dads added for the sake of cosmetic appeal only. Here's my list:

Must-haves:

Cruise Control (you may doubt its benefit now, but won't after you install it)

Oil Cooler - All TC's need a cooler, IMO, and should be standard equipment. I bought the HD Premium with a thermostat.

Windshield - The 4" deflector looks cool in the showroom, but one ride exceeding 45 mph will convince you it won't cut it. I bought a Clearview 8" smoked with recurve, and it is just right for me at 5' 10" to look over, not through, and effectively cut the turbulence. Looked at Cee Bailey SSC, but it won't fit a WS bag, which I want.

EFI enhancements + open air-cleaner: I selected the PCIII USB purchased from Fuel Moto, who provided a map for my package. Air-cleaner upgrade is the single biggest bang-for-the-buck purchase you'll make towards performance, but you'll need EFI enhancement (PCIII, SERT, etc.) to make it work correctly.

Kuryakyn Iso grips - Best hand grips on the planet, IMO. Every bike I've had in the past 12 years has had these installed, after which time your hand comfort will not be an issue on long rides.

Headlight modulator - Flashes 20/100% 4x/sec. on high beam in daylight only. One of the best active-safety enhancements you can buy, IMO, that calls attention to your approach. Most MC accidents are frontal, usually because someone "didn't see you." Mine is the Pathblazer and is easy to install.

100/80w H4 headlight bulb - Provides big lighting improvement for less than $10. Keep high-beams on in daylight with modulator and advertise your presence.

Rear lighting upgrade - Kuryakyn Panacea, run-stop-turn module from Kuryakyn (#4859) or HD, etc. I bought the Kuryakyn #4859 mostly for cost and ease of installation (10 min.), along with red turn-signal lenses, to make me more visible from the rear. Brake light blinks four times, then stays on, for each brake application. Panacea is an LED conversion and flashes rapidly, but is very pricey (~$250 for the complete kit). Had this on my old RK, but had a few LED's go out after the warranty (3 years) with no repair option, so I passed this time around.

Conditional Must-haves:

Muffler upgrade - Part of EFI-enhancements above, but IMO not imperative unless trying to elicit every last HP out of your setup. Buy according to your taste for sound, performance, and price. I bought Rush w/1.75" baffles, also from Fuel Moto, because I want to hear my stereo. Nice balance of throat and quiet for my taste. More backpressure means more low-end torque, within reason, whic

I agree with your coice to go for items that are functional, rather than simply flashy with no additional functionality, i.e., chrome mud flaps. You can always add chrome doo-dads at your leisure. Here are my suggestions: 1) rider's backrest, it helps tremendously, especially on long rides - I thought I'd only put it on for long rides, but it stays on the bike all the time now, great around town, too; 2) cruise control, again, a great option for long rides, I found my wrist really hurt after 700+ mile days without it, and it is just as precise as modern auto cruise controls; 3) passing lamps/driving lights - not only do they increase what you can see after dark, they are indispensable for your visibility to other traffic during the day - get them wired to draw power from the accessory circuit (before the accessory switch) so you can run them with either high or low beam, as well as having a back-up set of headlights should your headlight circuit fail; 4) tour-pac and detachable rack, adds a lot of storage capacity, you can take it off if you want for local riding; 5) passenger back rest and pad, with quick-detach hardware, adds a lot of safety for the passenger on short runs if you don't want to use the tour-pac; 6) a set of grips of your choice - I found the stock grips to be a bit small in diameter for my large hands, and a set of larger diameter chrome/rubber grips not only enhanced the looks of my bike, but made it more comfortable for me to ride; 7) the H-D run/turn/brake conversion for the rear turn signals - it makes a big difference in your visibility to following traffic, day or night; 8) possibly a Sundowner seat, it may increase the comfort factor significantly on long rides; 9) a SERT or PCIII so you can get the bike to run right and cooler (they are set up awfully lean from the factory, and enriching the mixture with an appropriate map can make the bike run much better, cooler, and increase rider and passenger comfort a lot).

To everyone (in particular iclick and 310pilot):

Thanks many times over. This is board is indispensable for useful information. Here is what I will be working on in the very near future:
1) SERT/PCIII (whatever the hell these are, they seem to attract unanimous applause)
2) Oil temp gauge
3) Oil cooler
4) Passing lamp system (thanks 310 for the wiring idea - perfect)
5) Cruise (possibly - never had it on a bike; always had it and never used it in a truck)
6) King Tour Pak and 2up rack (want the dealer to install it because I relate this to passenger safety - installed wrong, I am single again)
7) Front and rear lighting upgrades (modulators, etc..)

For future consideration:
1) Seat (we'll see how the factory one works out first
2) Driver's backrest (this I can do myself)
3) Windshield upgrade/change (again, we'll see how the shorty works)
4) Headlight bulb upgrade (again, I can do this myself)
5) Handgrip upgrade (ditto)
6) Air cleaner upgrade (ditto, ditto)
7) Extended heel shift arm (my size 11 heel seems to hook under the stock one, but I've only sat on the bike)
8) Back-off warning light (for those of you who have never had one, it's basically one small driving light mounted at the rear that can be flashed on high beam to get tailgaters offyour ***. My last one was removable with one wire connector and a thumb screw. Thinking maybe mount it on the underside of the Tour Pak.)

The help given on this board is immeasurable. Thanks again.

Passing lamps and tour pak? Probably cheaper to go EC/UC route if you have to have those items.

No flaming. It's just that I bought my SG to getaway from those items and styling.

I just purchased an 07 Ultra.. I had them install the following mods:

SERT (this is the Screaming Eagle Race Turner) - it will really help performance
Screaming Eagle Air Cleaner - performance
Perf slipons - (I was lucky... kept my SE 2 slipons that I'd put on my RKC - dealer put my old stock on the RKC )
the above results in HP = 76 and T = 94
I also added Chome 9-spoke HD wheels.. wow sharp! (dealer gave me $200 trade on each stock cast wheel)

Others I agree with from the forum:

Windshield: 8-9 inches
Tour Pak
A seat with a wide passenger pillion for the wife... if she's not comfortable.. you won't have much fun.. if you know what I mean :-)
