I live on the MD Eastern Shore about 15 minutes from Ocean City. The Bay-Bridge Tunnel is really cool, 25 miles across the bay with two really cool tunnels. The ride to get there is quite boring though. Rt 13 just one long 2 hour stretch with nothing special to see (it is the dreaded part of the ride whenever we go somewhere either on the bike or in the truck).
I would use the time to take rides to the Blackwater refuge and include hoopers and taylors island (head west on 50 about 1 hour from Ocean City). Or head south one afternoon to Chincoteague Island - Wallops Island (head south on rt113 - take a left on rt 12 in Snow Hill). Another nice ride around here is Crisfield. 113 south, right on 13 North. left past Sysco and follow signs.
Great advice right there. Taylors Island and Hoopers Island are both really nice rides. If you decide to do the Taylors Island loop be careful. The road is really narrow in parts and has some loose gravel and dirt.
Rt 12 is a beautiful scenic ride into Chincoteague.
And if you can swing it head a little further out on Rt 50 towards Easton and take a ride to St Michale and Tilghman Island. Great view of the bay at the end.
I did it back in April and it was definitely a cool trip but as others have said the ride down 13 is nothing short of brain numbing. Straight road with nothing to see, but the ride across the bridge is cool, and once across you can stop at Harley of Virginia beach and get at shirt with the bridge on it!
I think I'd take jjpish's advice as those are some nice quaint and scenic rides vs. the long haul from OC down to the CBBT. 13S down to the CBBT has a lot of stop lights and slow speed limits which makes it even longer with nothign especially interesting to see.
I'm a Crisfield'r (work in Salisbury) and one of my favorite short rides is between Snow Hill and Pocomoke through the forest taking Nasawango Rd. If you were heading over to Chincoteague or to 13S I'd take this route vs. 113.
Hey Capt I live in Public Landing we should meet up and ride sometime.
I agree the ride through the forest is much nicer than 113... There are some great twisty back roads from berlin most of the way to Snow Hill. I just do not know the names just ride them often... From Berlin head out behind Worcester prep and follow that road to the end. Take a right follow that till the sharp curve and peel off to the left. Then start picking your way through. Some nice roads back there that eventually lead you to the blinking light on rt 12 in Snow Hill. Cut across 12 and they are heading on your suggestion through the forest.
I take the bridge a several times a year. It's a fun ride, aside from the speed traps, idiot 4 wheelers, occasional high winds, etc.
If I can time it right, I love the Cape May ferry on the 7:30 am run - Grab a coffee from Mickey D's first - the coffee on the boat sucks! Bikes gert priority loading on the ferry as long as you get there on time, you park in the front. First on - first off.
Bikes are $36, round trip is $54.
And if you have been riding for a while the 85 minute trip is a nice break!
We did it north to south at sunset one evening. It was awesome. Stopped at the shop in the middle and had a soft drink. Then came the norfolk area and its suicidal cagers

Please, get it right. Our cagers are not "suicidal" they are "homicidal".
Done North Jersey to Virginia Beach twice. Each time we took the Chesapeke bay bridge - tunnel. Enjoyed it a lot. nothing like riding out and being surrounded by water on a bridge then plunging into a tunnel. The tunnle will be a little damp compared to the bridge, but it is all managable. Enjoy !!
