Hit the nail right on the head here. My '09 SG was doing the same thing recently. Never had a single issue with a latch for 35,000 miles, then after a 9 day trip through Colorado, I noticed the right side latch wouldn't stay closed. Upon further inspection, the cloth tether had creased and was pinching between the bag lower and lid gasket. Pulled it out, problem went away. Apparently overstuffing my bag liner for a week took its toll on the tether.

+1 on this advise. It was the cause of my problems. Now everytime I close the lids I tuck my hand under to push the tether out of the way.

I checked the tether & it's fine & out of the way, so that's not it.. Didn't know there was adjustments to the hinge mechanism thouhg, will have to check that out later. I've never believed in the standard fasteners that come with HD bags. Have the Brukus ones mine & also used loctite as they never come off.. Is there any instructions any where on adjusting the hinges on them??

Thanks for all the replies, sure do appreciate it!!

I keep mine locked all the time now. Once, on a ride home from the mountains of VA, I had a jar of questionable liquid in my left saddlebag. As I came into Winston Salem, NC, a deputy pulled the lights on me. I pulled over and he came up and told me nothing was wrong, just that my saddlebag was open. He said that he rode, too, and was just letting me know. I thanked him, locked the bag, and they have stayed locked ever since.
