Question for the Experienced
I appreciate the knowledge in this forum. Thank you. I have a question. I have just been tuned, bike is running great, no decal pop, 43 MPG, but I have noticed that when I am more aggressive on the throttle, I can make a back fire. Is this normal? Or should I have a "Fine" tune? Thanks for any input.
back fire through the exhaust means that raw fuel is moving through the motor and collecting in the pipes ---this could be TOO MUCH fuel, which can be bad as the fuel can also "wash down" ( remove the lubricating oil) the cylinder walls
or there is a misfire and the spark is not firing or at the wrong time so air and fuel are just moving through the motor- in either case this should be fixed.
otherwise, what are you paying for...

Define aggressive. If you are twisting quickly and letting off, back and forth you can make it backfire. By mkguitar's definition above you can make it happen by opening, closing, opening, closing too fast. This would be because the ECM can't keep up with random craziness on the throttle.

Thanks to all for the input. The tune did get rid of the decal pop. I could be opening a closing the throttle to fast. On today's ride, I had 1 pop in 1 1/2 hours. I will keep checking it out, and have the Svc Dept make any corrections. Thanks
Don't drive yourself nuts. I occasionally get a pop on the upshift between 1st and 2nd when I get on the throttle. Doesn't happen all the time, but the bike runs great otherwise. I had the bike dyno tuned by a reputable tuner.
