YES it is very fair and it comes from your Father in law, so you know it has not been wrecked or hacked up. That matters! No haggling with family, keep it a gentlemen's price with no BS.
Thanks for the replys. I just sold my '07 superglide and rarely used 6th gear, so the 5spd is not much of an issue for me.
What options do I have for the cam chain tensioners and what's the cost if I do the work myself?
I sold my 03 RKC one year ago August with 65,000 miles on it for $9500. At 53,000 miles my cam tensioners were done had the extended warranty so it only cost me $50. Personally if you like the bike then $10k is fair especially since you know it has been taken care of.
I own an 05 Road King so I watch prices closely. $10,000 for the bike, with a known history, sounds like a very fair deal. I'd jump on it if you want a Road King.
As for the five speed. Three weeks ago, I rode my bike home to Montana. The longest day was 500 miles. I ran 80 all day in some of the warmest weather I've ever seen in Montana. The TC88 (95 upgrade) with it's five speed was a treat. I'm sure the six-peed is a good transmission, but, I like my five-speed ... when I trade for a newer bike, it will not because I want or need the six-speed ... I'm just sayin'
Trading that bike at a dealership, you would be lucky to see $6500.
Yeah OK but he is not trading, he is selling, big difference. And if you think 05 RK's should go for $6500, find them for me so I can buy them by the dozen and re-sell for $11k
OP, surf Craigslist. You won't find RK's for under $10k unless they are 90's models
"Tons of add-ons" isn't a good gauge to determine how much he has done, or for that matter, what you want in "your" bike. Having said that, he may have easily spent thousands of dollars on his HOG.
If you like it and don't plan on putting a lot of money in it, I think it is a fair deal. A buddy of mine has a really clean 2005 RKC, and it runs and looks like new.
But, as others have commented, I'm recommending you opt for at least a 2007, which will give you a 96 inch motor and six-speed. I have ridden both and feel the extra gear was a major improvement I weighed it out and got an '09, which also gives a larger rear wheel/tire and improved frame.
It all comes down to how much you are willing to spend.
