I have an HD-M1V. Made by HJC I believe. Bluetooth ready. Nice helmet. Comfortable and quiet. Internal shade is cool too.

I have a Voss modular with the inner tinted flip shield. Decent helmet for about $150.00. Great for winter riding and that is about the only time I use it unless I am taking a long trip. Keeps the wind from beating your ears to death.

As was already mentioned, the Shark Evoline is a great option as it serves as a full face and the chin bar rotates back out the way and you can use it as a 3/4 yet still have full use of the outer face shield available as well at the retractable and tinted eye visor. I think the newer models may have communications capability built in. However, it may be harder to find a shop that actually carries the Shark line of helmets. I had to go with motorcycle superstore though there may be others. Google does wonders there.

I've got a Fulmer M1. I wear it on cold mornings to work and thats about it. I love it. Very comfortable and a good price.

Bell Revolver EVO or Nolan 103 would be my choices if I was in the market today.

Both have been on sale lately so check around EBay, Competition Accessories, etc.

Best modular on the market is the Schuberth. Just be prepared to shell out big bucks.

This. I looked at all of them. Schuberth is the King.

However..

I have the Schuberth C3 and I have the Harley Modular (I believe same made as HJC)

So: What is the difference between the best and the "average."?

Not too much. The Schuberth is more comfy and more quiet BUT if you really want a quite ride in there, you will need earplugs with EITHER of them.

After all is said and done, I probably could have saved the big$$ and just used my Harley with ear plugs when needed.

The trick to a quieter ride is the chin area. Harley has nothing there, Schuberth has a massive chin pad= much better.

But, at freeway speeds, I would want earplugs with either of them. Recently in a longer ride I used some nice ipod headphones that were also foam earplugs and they worked great! Best of both worlds!

A local BMW dealer had many high-end Helmets to try on. Maybe you can find one near you?

Also go to youtube for the best helmet reviews: Here is the Schuberth

Nolan 104... Bought a pair of them for the GF & I down at The Helmet Shop in Daytona during Bike Week. We've put about 10,000 miles on wearing them the bulk of the time, light, comfortable, all the bells and whistles. Would buy another without shopping for anything else.

True. Modular helmets are noisier than traditional full face helmets because they have more seams.
