You will still sustain wind noise damage to your ears regardless of whether you wear a 3/4 or full face helmet. Helmets protect your head, not your ears. It's the rush and woosh of the wind around the helmet surface that contributes to the damage. Wear the plugs no matter what kind of helmet you choose...or don't choose. Either way, you are protecting a very valuable asset that is non-repairable if you allow it to be damaged.

Anyone out there with a FF helmet wearing ear plugs? Do you find there's a benefit in doing so?
You should start wearing them today! FF helmets, at least the high quality ones, will help a little, but there is no alternative to wearing in-ear plugs. They don't have to be anything fancy or expensive, I use the commercial soft spongy type you roll between your fingers and pop in. I have also been wearing them for almost 40 years!

Is there any benefit? If you want to hear anything in later life, then YES!

I have speakers in my helmet for the music and intercom. No earplugs for me.

Always wear ear plugs. Even if I'm stopping for a few minutes for gas, pee break and a bottle of water, I'll keep the plugs in. Anybody riding along with me just has to talk a bit louder to get my attention.

I wear them with my half helmet, but not the fullface. If your fullface is so loud that you need plugs, I submit that you either own a piece of crap helmet, or it doesn't fit right. My FF is silent inside, no wind noise at all. My half helmet sounds like an airport without plugs in.

On my Road King when I wear my small coconut protector for short hops I put plugs in. When I wear my high quality Arai FF for highway trips I don't need plugs. On my Goldwing wind isn't as much of a factor as my cruiser.

Default Ear Plugs for Riders

Here is a website that handles ear plugs for motorcycle riders. There is a "Trial Pack" offer that lets you try four different types so you can decide which ear plugs work best for you.
