I've been running a Thundermax on my 08 street glide for a little over a year for about 15k miles the bike now has 40k. I have a Ness Big Sucker 2 and Rinehart 2-1.
After riding the bike for a while it get's extremely hot and the idle speed increases. It's currently set at 896 but rarely idles there usually around 1000. While riding the other day I got stuck in downtown traffic for about 30 minutes. The bike started to get hotter and the idle increased to 1500, and finally 1800 almost 2000. I went inside and came out about 4 hours later. Bike started up and ran and idled fine.
Also I'm having problems with starting the bike. It will occasionally be hard to start which I think may be the starter clutch? It makes a terrible clunk and will backfire out the intake.
your map is probably corrupted, it happens sometimes.. I'd reload the last version of your map.
How did you come up with an idle speed of 896, my RG doesn't charge the battery and has low oil pressure under 950rpms. I have mine set at 1024rpms to lesser the shake from my cams. Then I have the idle speed go down to 950 at head temps over 360.
link your bike while idling and look at the monitor gauges, if your voltage isn't at 13.7 at idle the idle speed is too low. If it's at 12v or lower it will cause the map in the TMax to become corrupted as the Tmax needs over 12v at all times.
Mine idles at 896 also. Its what is in the 106 map I run. I have noticed depending on the day the voltage is normal others its at 12v. I need to watch it better and find out what it charges at for sure. Oil pressure was more of issue since it seems pretty low at like 10ish or a little lower. Guess I may be bumping this up some.
Ok just hooked up the laptop and checked everything. It's set to idle at 896 rpm. It idles there till it its warm then it starts to climb. The whole time its charging 14.2 volts so that's not an issue. I took apart the connect to the throttle body and cleaned it with contact cleaner, then put some dielectric grease on it and also the connector at the thundermax. Started it up no throttle and it was idling horrible. Checked the codes 2138 and 1512. So i unhooked it and plug it back in and cleared codes and the throttle is now working. Haven't had a chance to ride it to get it hot to see if this fixed it.
had the same problem....the IAC or one of the two calibration routines had to be run....basically...treated it like a new install and loaded my last good map....took it for a drive and applied learned adjsutments...and it worked fine. theory presented to me was the IAC gets dirty and you can either replace it or recalibrate it....apparently...its a bear to clean and trying to clean it causes more problems than it solves.

I am all new to the Harley side of EFI systems and what all sensors they do and do not have. I'm a Ford tech and I know our vehicles with electronic throttle control will set IAC codes even though it doesn't have an IAC. The dtc sets the same way if it does/doesn't have an IAC, ECM just knows the IAC function is not working is maybe why a TBW bike sets an IAC code?
Well after emailing diagnostic data to thundermax they were unable to find anything wrong and offered to check the module if I shipped it back. So I shipped off and they replaced the circuit board. Reinstalled it and the same issue was there
So I removed the thundermax and reinstalled the stock ECM. I reset the idle by cycling the ignition switch. Started it up it idled up to 2000 rpm then after about a minute it idled down to around 1000rpm. So I let it idle for a while and as it warmed up the idle went back up. Also once it's warmed up the hard start is back with the clunk.
So I removed the throttle body and placed in new seals. Cleaned the TMAP sensor and checked the crank position sensor. Started it back up still the same issues. Sprayed carb cleaner and was unable to find a intake leak. So the only thing left is possibly the twist grip sensor or the throttle body itself of maybe fretting on the connector?
