The kickstand thing might work, I never tried it, I just run them. We have a loop type setup at one of the gates at work, sometimes we have to drag a metal plate across it to trigger it. So the kickstand might work.
I cut through parking lots and avoid the whole maybe it will, maybe it won't left arrow thing. I have a phobia about being rear ended by some idiot on a cell phone while waiting for that green arrow. My little municipality is the only place in the area which won't approve left turn yield on green after the arrow goes away.
Some of the light sensors by me don't cycle. They always stay green on the main road and only change when they sense a car on the side road. In this instance, I just go when it's clear.
Some pretty interesting info from Virginia DOT - dry, but interesting. Being from Ohio, I found the letter from ODOT and AMA in the appendix particularly interesting. http://vtrc.virginiadot.org/rsb/RSB25.pdf
Looks like your best bet if you are looking to take action is to call your DOT and see if they can help.
One cycle and Im going when its clear.
I was told to ride over the length of the seam of sensor and put the kickstand down, seemed like it worked for me a couple times.
I just discoved the sensor style left arrow BS last month, I hate it almost as much as all the Damned turn abouts they've put in. Especially when they have one right after another !
I Am sure it has already been said but if it doesnt change after twice I go.
They sell a magnetic thing someone else mentioned but I cant imagine that it would work.
I think it is a ground sensor when you cant set it off by the front of the bike, in those cases I just go when it is clear.
I cant see getting a ticket, one, I wouldnt go in front of a cop and two, if I was pulled over I would ask them, what would you have me do, change my address to this intersection? it isnt going to change no matter how long I wait so I have to go sometime.
I have one near me I always forget about until it is too late, so I know I have to go on red, poor engineering if you ask me.
