Question Roadking questions.

As posted earlier here I hope to buy a 2002 Roadking this week. I have two more questions.
1 The bike is fitted with the leather panniers. Will hard panniers fit straight on to the existing mounting kit or is it a big deal to change them ? I would love to have the choice of the two appearances.

2 Do tanks & fenders come up for sale often ? Again money permitting I think have two sets would be better than having two bikes . I've looked at one of the site sponsors here that supplies pre painted sets for reasonable money. All comments welcome

Hi Scotty, from across the Irish Sea! I can't answer question 1 but will make a few comments on Q2. In the British Isles metalwork comes up rarely, however I am a regular visitor to US Ebay, where truck loads of really fascinating stuff is on sale, all the time!

However beware! Shipping costs across the Atlantic can even shock the seller, plus you may have import duty and taxes to pay, so the final purchase costs can be eye-watering! Despite that I have been able to make changes and improvements to my bikes over the years and continue to do so, largely thanks to Ebay.

Leather bags and hard bags fit on the same brackets. You just have to loosen the front one and rotate it. When I switched my buddies i just left it loose, put the the fastener through and then retightened it.

Tins are always on ebay, Craig's List, Kijiji, etc.,

Thanks for the reply. I have discovered in the past that if items are posted and not couriered by fedex or ups or similar then it can be possible to avoid "duty & taxes" . In the case of fenders etc if they are listed as used bike parts (true) at a low value they will go in under the radar.

I am running the hard bags on my 2005 RKC and still have the leather bags. Same hardware with just a small adjustment on the rear connector. I see fenders all the time on Ebay like also mentioned. I bought a brand new spare that was the same as mine from someone that ordered the wrong color from Harley. Picked it up for less than half and now have a spare for the time if something happens.

I bought fenders, tank and side covers for under 200 bucks total on ebay. There were a few minor dents/scratches but nothing too major. Shipping would be your major concern though.
