Default switch housing

Are there any wires connected to the switch housing? Or is it take out the screws and it pops right off?

All wires in the switch housings are connected to switches. Some switches are attached with screws to the housing. Some are held in place by a small plate. (at least thefront brake switch is on my 03 Ultra)

If you want to change the switch housings, you have to removethe switches from the housings.
You don't have to removeall switch ***** to remove the switches from the housing. Just the one(s) from the cruise control. (and radio if you have one) These are press fit and there's a special tool that lifts them off the switches gently. It looks like a two legged fork.

Why are you gonna remove the switch housings?

It doesn't just pop off. All of your wires are connected to the switches, which are connected to the housing.

Don't rush out and buy a special tool to pop the radio/cruise switches off. I just pulled mine off with my hand, but even if it had been a little tougher, you could just slide some small needlenose under them and lift...

Maybe he's getting the chrome housings... That's when I got into mine.

If you open them, be careful putting them back together and avoid pinching the wires; they are thin gauge wire and if caught between the switch housings when reassembled a short is likely as the pinching willcutthe thin insulation.

Yes there is just a small phillips head, but it can get tricky when you try to replace the throttle side.

And don't forget to put a cardboard spacer in the front brake lever to keep from damaging the brake switch when reassembling to the bars.

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't get to tackle the task this past weekend. To answer the question. I am taking them off to have them chromed. This guy around here does a great job and is very reasonable. ($15 each half $60 total) I took my passenger floorborad bracket and will post pictures this coming weekend.

I don't remember the Harley parts costing $60... Anyone know the current price on the factory chrome switch housings? Mine are a couple of years old....
