For me not including cars and animals , their a given at anytime either one can take you out if you not watching.
We have the rut coming up for deer. In my area we have 250 to 300 deer per sq. mile. So riding the roads anywhere in the burb's or country are hazardous.
But what I am watching out for at the Tar slicks , are they just as bad when wet as they are when hot ?
Believe it or not, ladders! I have seen more damn fiberglass and aluminum ladders fall off the back of RV's and motorhomes from moron's using $.99 bungee straps. One flew off a RV in front of us on the way to ROT Rally in 2009. took out our lead rider everyone else scrambled for the other lane. In 2010, one came off a Prevost and bounced up taking out my front grill & radiator in my Yukon.
Me TO ! I was coming up 95 over the summer and the traffic was moving at a good clip 80-85 and this curve comes up and they they are every lane and a stip of concrete about 12" wide through it thank God.
Construction zone crap that I have drove thru this summer:
Orange barrels laying in the road (thank you semis);
Cones placed haphazardly on the road;
Uneven payment (not signed);
Gravel strewn over the pavement (nice & slippery);
The entire Western US was one big construction zone this summer...SJ Ron
Long split cracks in the road. Some are wide enough to swallow your tires. They look like long rough trenches and are all over the roads up here due to heavy truck traffic.
Road Gaters (tire tred left in the road with radial wire waiting to bite ya).
Damn things will eat your lunch if ya get bit by one. About 15 years ago I hit one in the middle of the night while riding home after work. Tore the crap out of my pant leg and ripped my leg wide open.
Yup, grooves in the roads and watch out for draw bridges, the ones with the metal grates, I hit one this weekend and my bike went all over the place, I just let it go where it wanted, scared the crap out of me.

+1 Same here in CA, have several long gorges on my ride home each day, feels like I am being pushed back and forth into both lanes.
