Like I say I dont sleep so I may be out washing and polishin at 3 A.M. not a whole lot goin on at that time in the morning and it give the neighbors sumthin else to B%&ch about
Man, this is great advice from so many different perspectives. I might be out there at 3am too, I don't sleep. One of my concerns is scratching the paint. Is there nothing out there that you can use to "wipe off" your bike, say every once in a while when it gets dusty, that won't scratch the paint or chrome? I was using that California thing, you know you run it over the surface of your car (or bike) and it leaves a shiny waxy residue. I was using that on my Honda V65 Magna and it really takes a shine, but the guy at the HD dealership said not to do that to my Road King cuz it would scratch the paint. Any suggestions? (I know, I know, besides getting rid of the Honda, haha, I am, it's for sale, nothin like a HARLEY) Thanks.
Andy
PS: What does MOCO stand for? I kinda get that it's HD but what does it mean? Thanks.
Nah - like ah said, wuz ah an "average joe" ah'd git me a home RO, hook up a larger storage tank an' use that water fer the final rinse afore ah'd use them "spot-free" cartridges - they jest ain't got much bang fer the buck!
As far as the rk bags, I would use Vinylex. See it here...http://lexol.com/vinylex.html I swear by this stuff. Whether it is vinyl or leather, this stuff great. I use it on my seat and any black plastic on my bike. IT makes it look brand new, and protects from the sun. You can get it at pep boys.
hehehe...okay folks, ya'll done mentioned the "spotfree" systems a coupla times. That's in MAH area of work![8D]
First off...when dealin' with demineralization/deionization, yer dealin' with a resin that has a capacity of 20,000 grains per cu. ft. I know - what's THAT mean?!??
Well, think about a rechargable battery. You can run "x" number of lights for "y" number of hours, right? Change either of the two parameters an' the other one changes - same here. But the x is the MINERAL CONTENT of yer water supply, an' the y is the GALLONS TREATED afore it don't work right no more.
Ah might add that in extreme circumstances, runnin' the water beyond the resin capacity without removing/rechargin' the resin will result in some pH issues that CAN (literally) destroy a chrome finish.
Now...lemme give ya some ideas here on how much water a cubic foot of this resin will treat on some Texas cities. These are approximate - if ya want exact, then email me with yer TDS of the tap water (Total Dissolved Solids).
Now...how much is a cubic foot? Wahl, 12 inches x 12 inches x 12 inches. 8" diameter tank 'bout 40" tall. 'Bout 80-90 lbs..... So, how much resin do ya REALLY think is in that li'l baggie/cartridge?<G> Me, ah'd use the "real" tanks, properly set-up with monitors an' such, or use nuthin'. Like ah said - the potential fer pH-related damage is real - an' warranty ain't gonna cover it!!
Even the use of softened water is generally better'n plain tap - or if ya have a home RO, set up a larger pressure tank an' use THAT water!
I have a 75gpd RO unit. My TDS before RO is 1370. I have very hard water and I can not wash a car or anything for that matter without leaving major white spots.
If I wash my bike I fill up a 35 gallon drum and use 5 gallon buckets and hand wash rinse the bike.
Another approach but one not recommended by anyone unless they know what they are doing. (I used to run Hard coral tanks so I am very knowledgable able water chemistry) is take muriatic acid and neutralize your waters PH down to 6.5ph. But like I said, don't try this at home kiddies because if you screw it up, you'll put sever discoloration in paints and chrome.
Oh by the way I do have some great chrome polish that the shiznit for chrome. It is a wipe on wipe off polish. I have a lil bit of chrome and can do the whole bike in about hour and a half. It is made by a company local here and it runs right a $20 for a 16 oz. bottle. I have done 2 bike for 2 and a half years and still have a quarter of a bottle. If anyone is interested let me know. I am thinking about buying a case of the stuff it is amazing.
This reminds me of the comercial where the assembly line shuts down when they realize the product last too long...
