I just took off a ness stage 2 today. One of the 3 bolts for the air cleaner broke. The filter is a K&N. Its in a box in my cabinet. Went back to a SEAC and the football cover, it was in stock and I was happy with this before.

+3 I have been running the same Ness backing plate on the last two bikes I have owned and never experienced a leak. It sounds like you are tightening your bolts way too tight and distorting the O rings. I have seen others do the same thing and have leaks.
I usually take them off and replace the O rings and tighten them back to spec and no problem from there on.
I use the SE one and I can't imagine it breaking. It's pretty heavy duty...
I have the the original "silver" one that came with my SE Stage I kit if you're interested. I didn't like the "silver" finish and bought the wrinkle black version to replace it.
Why must we pay top dollar for MC products and then have to modify them to make them work correctly??????????????????
Because Ness sells crap.... I have bought a few pieces with their name on it and they are no longer in my possession and I won't spend another dime willingly with them.
Have had the Ness Big Sucker now for a couple of months on the Road Glide. No leaks at all. Getting the O-rings to seat properly when you install can be a challenge but once seated corret I have had no issues.

I assume that if you install the backing plate and never remove & install again (for me it's been many times), the plate probably will not crack.
Another lesson learned and more money thrown out the window.
At least with the solid billet backing plate & filter from Fuel Moto, I have a bullet proof backing plate that is guaranteed for life with a fair price.
