I have enjoyed the HD adjustable on my 06 RKC. fairly simple self install and the ability to adjust position depending on clothing has been nice (tee shirt only vs heavy jacket). It folds forward as needed to let OL on the back and is very easy to quick disconnect when removing the seat for any reason. When traveling solo on multiday trips, it will support my bag, just like if it was on a sissy bar, since I have the king tour pak.
I have the Harley adjustable backrest on my 09 Road King and like it. Like stated before me, the adjustablility allows for different clothing thicknesses and for change-up during a ride for comfort.
LOOKING FOR OPINIONS ON THESE 3 DRIVER BACKRESTS FOR MY 2012 RK CLASSIC.
1. HD BACKREST AND MOUNTING KIT $240
2. MUSTANG ONLINE WITH FREE SHIPPING $235
3. KURYAKYN PLUG IN ONLINE FREE SHIPPING $152
I don't want price to be the deciding factor. I appreciate any suggestions.
Your going to get a ton of opinions because everyones situation and set up is different. You should attempt to try a few back rests out if possible.
I personally have the HD non adjustable and find it to be very comfortable. It pushes me slightly more forward. However, I don't think its actually pushing me forward as much as its forcing me to sit straight up...I like being a little more forward as the reach to everything in stock configuration is much more comfortable and relaxed. The downside to the HD version in my opinion is its size. Its big!
Go with the Mustang. I've had one with a Mustang Solo Roadking seat. Much more substantial the the HD. Easy to remove and it has an adjustment **** that will move the backrest forward toward your lower back RIGHT where it needs to be. Can't recommend it too highly!
Ive got the mustang and it works well. Lot of adjustability and it matches my seat perfectly. Another thing it does is folds over the seat to the front. I set my helmet there and fold it down on it when I park.
This might go without saying but my recommendation is to pick what seat you want first. If you have the stock seat and you're thinking about upgrading, you might as well do that first. If you end up with a mustang, you will probably want to go with their backrest that slides right into the seat. The mustang backrest is very nice and comfy too.
