Does anyone know the size of the fork drain screw? The reason I ask is I just put the chrome lowers on my bike and the right fork will not stop leaking at the drain screw. I've tried a couple of drain screws and sealing washers but it just keeps seeping, I'm thinking now the threads in the fork lower are F.U.B.A.R. If I can figure out the screw size and thread pitch I will put a Helicoil in it. It looks like about a 1/4 20 but I have a feeling it probably metric.
Noooo....You mean my "American" made harley is not 100% american?Wow...I've been mislead by all these folks in here. They all told me that they are all american made and that they would never ever ride anything but. How will I ever cope now that the truth is out!!!
Can you measure the OD of the screw/bolt.
If BadAzz is correct the bolt will measure about .315".
A 1/4-20 will measure about .250"
The forks are from Japan so it would be a metric size.
Sounds like the thread is stripped.Get yourself a helicoil kit.
Based on the information about the screw size BadAzz provided it looks like the Helicoil kit to get is 5546-8, you can find it at Napa Auto-parts,I'm sure other parts and hardware stores carry them as well. I figured that I would post this just in case someone else may need it in the future.
