The OEM starter clutches are weak. The bendix throws it into the ring gear and then the solenoid engages the starter motor. If the bendix engages and the starter motor spins but does not turn the flywheel it is the starter clutch.

Sometimes if they are bad enough you can spin the starter gear both ways on the shaft but it is only supposed to go one way. Hard to confirm in your hand.

All ***** starter clutch arrived at 7:00 this evening and I cranked the bike at 9:30, WOW what a difference in the sound of the bike turning over sounds better then ever more importantly it cranked over! I also changed the primary fluid filled it up with Valvoline V-Twin 10W/40 quietest and smoothest shifts my RoadKing has ever had!!
Starter Clutch Function Check
With the new All ***** starter clutch in hand and the old HD OEM I was able to freely spin the old HD OEM and the All ***** only turned in one direction.
