My bike is either in the garage, or on the sidewalk in front of an establishment. If "they" don't like it, they can **** up a rope! When people learn how to drive, which will never happen--then I'll park in a legal spot.
I'm with you on this one. Usually I can find a spot on the side walk with 3 or 4 other bikes. Even had a store manager ask me to move it to a better more secure spot in front of the store!
On bikes with security systems now-a-days, the siren is an optional add on, just the lights would have flashed if he doesn't have the siren
I did install a radio shack siren (first thing I did), so it does make noise. GF's apartment is on the second floor and we were watching a movie and then sleeping, so if it did go off it wasn't loud enough to wake me up. Even if it did, the driver would most likely have been long gone by the time I put pants on and headed downstairs to check it out.

Yep, that's the plan. Got a free 1k with the bike and it'll be at the dealer next week, so I plan on asking them to take a look while it's there. My deductible is $500, so it might not be worth it to file a claim to get a new bag. Maybe I can work extended bags into the deal and end up saving some. Would have to see how much that would increase my premium and do some maths. There are definitely options, all of which require me to spend money though

I agree, and I always give the benefit of the doubt...until you F*** with me, my family/friends, or my stuff. Then all bets are off. Been burned too many times though trusting the goodness of people. Trying not to turn into a curmudgeon. Too young for that
OP - Sorry to hear of your troubles, inconsiderate drivers do indeed SUCK!!
For the rest - it won't be a collision claim on his insurance unless he has proof that it was indeed a collision. Usually a police report filed in a timely manner will suffice. But since he doesn't know exactly when it happened, and doesn't have any info about the other vehicle, it will be tough to get a "collision" claim out of it. Hit-and-run??? maybe.
How does the insurance company know that he didn't accidentally hit it with the weedeater?

I think the sidewalk is more dangerous around here. Between the hipsters zipping around on their bicycles or riding mopeds on the sidewalk, aggressive pedestrians, and the strict police force (ever get a ticket for j-walking? you will in Seattle!), it's safer on the street. I'd honestly be most worried about getting a ticket or having some moron on his bicycle run into it on the sidewalk than a car swiping it. I should just move out of the city!
People in Seattle are weird. Weirdest place, as far as people go, that I've lived so far. Beautiful though.
My friend hit my saddlebag when my rk was new, damaged it pretty bad, I brought it to a good body shop and they fixed it up relatively cheap and did a good job, you probably only need a pint of HD paint, and the shop should have clear coat....the light is relatively cheap, yes it sucks but **** happens and people suck but you just gotta move on sometimes.
It's collision. Not comp. it was hit by another vehicle not damaged by vandals. Unless you can get your insurance to see it that way.
It should not affect your insurance premium. It is a not at fault collision claim.
Happened to me years ago. Insurance agent said "no witnesses, we don't know what happened, if it was another vehicle or something else" Since I have $500 deductible Collision and $200 deductible comp, he wrote it up as "unknown cause of damage when vehicle left unattended in marked parking space".
