Default Road King without bags?

This is gonna sound weird, but...since my demo ride, I fell in love with the RK Custom! Only thing, I hate those ugly leather bags! I love the Hertitage style bags, but the RK's slanted just isn't what I'm looking for, same goes with the classic. I wouldn't mind the standard's hard cases though. To my suprise, there are no others bags (as the dealer told me) that would work with the custom.
So a few questions, I have never seen a picture of any RK (that I recall) w/o any bags. Is there a reason for this, something unsightly hideen behind them? How would it look?
Also, any ideas as to any aftermarket bags that would work nicely that are more traditonal in styling?
Thanks, my quest continues!

For starters, The hard bags off of the standard will fit on the custom just fine, I have a buddy that has them on his, had the dealer install them before delivery. If you take the bags off you will see that it is indeed ugly behing them, there are the air shocks, and bag mounts, it not pretty whats so ever. My best suggestion would be to put the stock bags off of the custom on e-bay, I think you will get more than enough to buy a set of hard bags on ebay then you only need to have them painted to match. Thats what I would do. But I know for certain they will fit the bike.

Awesome, what i wanted hear! The real main reason I like the custom is, it's considerably lower than the standard kinda funny since I am 6'1", but it's what felt the best (I tried so many bikes). And, I need to keep a decent comfy seat, so I don't see losing any height there. I know a lowering kit can only take a little over an inch off.
So, sounds good I already have a paint scheme in mind for the whole bike with hard bags.
Any ideas about lowering a standard?

Lowering any bike has it's drawbacks. You scrape in turns easier and can bottom out when you ride 2 up. Not to mention that you sacrifice ride quality when you lower a bike, just some thoughts before you jump in to it.

Check out the hard bags on a RK Police Special. The way the latch works is cool.
