2009 Street Glide dropped of saturday for a little more power. Baisly heads,103 kit, tts, red shift 575 cam, barnett clutch, D&D fat cat,new throttle body, and a few more goodies. All was good super excited drop off the bike 2 weeks pick it up with a smile. But here is my luck after flooding last year from Irene and sitting at my families today waiting for my house to flood again from Sandy I get the phone call that nobody wants. Crank run out is 7 1/2 thousanths out make the decision crank work or chance it. I chose the crank work and rods and weighing the pistons balancing and a compression bump. man does this day suck.
Same thing with my 09 SG. After a few sleepless nights, I decided to have Darkhorse do their true, balance, pro plug, weld and H-Beam rods. Timken bearing also. It took twice as long and cost twice the $, but in retrospect I'm glad I did it. The motor is alot smoother at high rpm's and I hope to never have to touch the lower end.
When I did my 103 kit and heads I had my crank worked, not because I needed to, but rather because of the added HP & TQ, just made sense to me. Hope you get spared by Frankenstorm! Hope the bike comes together nicely also!!
Thanks I am starting to get over my rant realized it was the right move to do the bottom end. Thanks for listening to me vent. So far ok with the storm waiting till the morning to see storm damage and storm surge.
It is the right move, and shame on Harley for getting rid of the forged cranks of '99-'02 along with the all important Timken Lefty bearing in '03 and up. In those motors a runout of just over .003" got you brand new motor under warranty.
Today you can't get warranty until the runout exceeds .012" because these new motors can't hold the tolerances.

who are you having do the crank work? also very wise to do the rods, H beam I assume. get rid of those crappy wrist pin bushings in the stock rod
the bike will be much smoother all thru the range, balanced flywheels make a huge difference
