Average stop????
Many variables on this:
1. If in a group ride, usually governed by the bike with the smallest fuel tank -- or rider with the smallest bladder. On a road trip, that is about 125 miles.
2. If around town with the wife, then it is usually when the tapping on the shoulder starts or the talking ceases -- indicating a cessation in the interest in surrounding area(s).
3. If solo, or with some of my friends who are hard-core mile-collectors, then we run until the light comes on indicating a need for fuel. Then the stop is as quick as possible to hit the restroom, score some treats, restock the water reserves, and head back onto the road -- usually within 10 minutes.
If only I could make a living out of riding... my quality of living would improve!

If I'm traveling and in a hurry about every 150-175. If I am just seeing the country side it's hard to say could be 20 miles could be 100 depends if I want to stop and see something.
I agree it's about the ride, not the destination I ride by myself or in small groups of 3 or 4 at the most, I hate trying to keep everyone happy all the time so I don't ride in poker runs or HOG rides, I have had too many times where someone I didn't even know comes sliding up behind me at a stop. So I only ride with a few trusted friends.

When I'mriding solo on my own route, I'll ride gas light to gas light and then the stop is only long enough to refuel and maybe a liquid. I'v got a cast iron bladder so I can run all day.
I stop about every 70 to 90 minutes, not only because Michelle appreciates it, but because of my tendency for blood clots in the legs. We usually aren't in that big of a hurry, and just want to be able to enjoy the ride.
