I did an S&S 106 BB kit with S&S heads and 583 easy start cams.....I'm still happy.
Plenty of highway speed and get up n go faster even at 80 mph you can still kick it.
I'm looking to upgrade my ultra 09 96 with new camshafts and possibly a big bore kit. Does anyong have any experience that they could share?
The S&S 551 Easy Start is a great choice for your set up .... Many will recommend the SE255 which also has good numbers but can give "Hot Start Problems" on some scooters. I've seen a couple of post where tuners are getting real good numbers too ... http://www.****************/forums/h...rformance.html
Thanks everyone for your input. I'm located in a suburb of Detroit where a good dyno tune runs $250.00 to $350.00. I'm running a se tuner with rinehart slip-ons and a J&P air cleaner. My buddy has a set of se 255 cams that he'll let me have for $150.00. I've seen on ebay a se 103 Big Bore kit for $400.00. I've been warned however that some of these kits could include a hodge-podge of components. I have heard good things about both the Andrews and Woods cams. Thanks again... I remain open to any further feedback
I have the SE255's in my 96" and really like them.
About 70% of the time we ride two-up and the SE255's made a huge difference over the stock cams. Riding two-up is effortless compared to the stock cams. They eliminated downshifts on all but the largest of hills.
The SE255's are not performance hot rod cams by any means, but they really do well for all around riding. They do not fall on their face at 4000 rpm as some claim. They don't build a lot more power above 4000 rpm but they still pull pretty hard to redline, way more than stock.
I bought my SE255's for $150 and ended up with about $300 total in my install, doing it myself. That includes buying a inner cam bearing remover/installer.
The $300 SE255 cam upgrade made way more horsepower per dollar than the $1200 stage 1 w/tuner.
The SE255's have a lot of haters out there, but I really like them. They are a great all around touring cam.
