I'm considering picking up a Road Glide Ultra this winter.
I ride a Road King Classic now, the seat height on the RGU is about an inch taller than the Road King Classic.
I'm 5-10, on my Road King, I had to lower it, I got the profile low shocks, and had my seat modified. Perfect.
I'm looking at the specs for the Road Glide Ultra and the seat height is 3" higher than the RG Custom. And the RG Custom has a bigger front tire!
I'm scratching head over this one.
Kind of an odd question, and a long shot, but does anyone have any idea what accounts for such a huge difference in seat height especially given the smaller wheels on the RGC?
I just went from a '12 RGU to a '13 RGC and yes, there is a good 3" difference in height.
Rear shocks are an inch lower on the custom and the difference in the seat takes up the other two inches.
The Ultra sets you closer to the bars as well.
The tires are close to the same diameter since section height of the two differ greatly to achieve the same overall height/diameter.

Ah.. seat. Interesting.
So - I had my RKC stock seat modified (narrowed, lowered) - can I use that seat on the RGU?
On the late year 2010 and 2011 and up EG, the seat was about 1" lower than previous versions. Did that "low" seat not make it to the RG? My stock seat on the FLHTK was marked "low" on the seat pan. Unfortunately, just not a comfortable seat, thus the Mustang Wide touring.
People on Road Glides always hold their heads a little higher.....
It's so the Fugly owners can look down on the rest of us.
Since they think their bike rides so much more superior.
Seriously seats make the biggest difference. Take your seat in and put it on what you are looking at.
Your Road King should have the same rear shocks as the rest of the Touring bikes.
Only the Street Glide and Road Glide Custom have the 1" lower rear shocks.
The Roadglide Ultra With the low Profile shocks and your seat should sit at the same height.
Bars may be different that is something you will have to check out. YOu shouldn't have any problems.
