Default Am I worring about nothing?

My oil pressure is up to almost 32 psi and when the bike gets hot it drops considerably. Just barley off zero at idle and maybe halfway between 32 and zero cruising. Running 10w 50W Vavoline V-Twin Syn oil.

Thanks

This is normal for low pressure Harley's.

I've read about plenty of conditions like yours so I don't think it's really abnormal, but my oil pressure is a little better. Typically mine runs around 14-16 psi at idle and around 30-32 psi at speed. Even during the hottest of times with oil temps around 250 my oil pressure has never dropped more than a few psi from those numbers.

Mine is similar to yours when hot. It drops very low at idle, but does stay up at 32# when above 2,000 rpm. I was concerned seeing it that low too. The mechanic I talked to, the only one I trust at the dealer, told me it was not unusual and as long as my pressure was staying up when riding that I didn't need to worry about it.

That sounds a little low according to what I see on my 2010 Ultra. Pressure is contingent upon RPM, so if you are cruising at an RPM down close to 2000 (which is getting close to a "lugging" condition) you will have less pressure than you will have if you keep your RPMs closer to 3000. Lower pressure at idle is perfectly normal.

Once it gets really hot outside, the viscosity of the oil increases, and the pressure will be a little bit lower.

But the good news is that it's all about the circulation of the oil, not so much the pressure. As long as the oil is being circulated in these HD engines they work fine. I believe that 2007 and later models have the high-flow oil pumps.

Seems a little low but my question would be why 10-50 in Florida? I would try 20-50 to see if it helps a little. I run 20-50 Mobil 1 V twin synthetic and my hot oil pressure is a little higher like 2black1's.

I'm running 20-50. I get 32-34 psi when cold and at cruise. When it gets warm it is at 5-8 at idle. I was told by a an HD tech that this was normal in my 2001.

Thanks. I only running 10w-40 by mistake. I usually run Moble 1 20w-50 but there was a sale on the oil I bought and I didn't notice it was 10W-40 until I already drained my oil. I think I will change it out and see if pressure improves. A lot of folks here in South Florida runs straight 50w Syn.
You think that would be ok?

I bet it would be OK, but you might want to talk to a local tech to be sure. I can tell you one thing I was down in Tampa last month and rented a RGU, when I got stuck in traffic in St Petersburg I have never in my life felt heat like came off of that Roadglide!! Post up what you find out with your oil changes, should be interesting.
