My 2012 is my second denim black bike.
I use just hot water to wash and then rinse looks great.
No colour change.

I've used Windex on mine but switched to the Harley Gloss cleaner, the Harley cleaner leaves a nice light sheen on the bike which looks really good, my bike is an 09 EGS and has no issues with the paint, still looks new!

I read an article from a paint industry insider who explained that because of the lack of a clearcoat the denim paints are prone to and have been having many issues with bikes that are ridden in weather and especially if they are kept outside.
Without a proper clear coat the denim paints are in tended for show bike not daily drivers.
I also read about a ton of people having issues and dealers and corporate not covering the repairs.
I like the denim and was planning on using a denim paint on my tins and gloss on the metals like highway bar, exhaust, shifters bars, etc.. but after reading about it i decided I would go with the gloss instead and then powder coat flat black on the bars, etc.. sort of reverse the plan.

There is some good reading on the topic and I can only paraphrase, but that was the jist of it.
There seemed t be as many happy customers as unsatisfied so I dont knw what other environmental factors were involved.

New here, but bike's a 2011. Still looks great, and I use windex as well. No areas of bike changing color or losing denim finish.

I bought a 2011 SG in black denim last year and decided to do a little winter project replacing all the the tins. So when it came time to paint, there was no question on the color, black denim!

Mine is a year old. Has a few little scratches where my thigh hits the tank. Barely noticeable.

I let a bag that hangs off the driver backrest rub on the fender and that is a noticeable spot.

That said I love the color and it is very easy to clean. No waxing etc. Would like to find some touch up paint.

In the end...glad I got it.

YOU CAN"T ALWAYS BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ...lol ya have everybody including myself who have denim just loving it with easy care and no wear. the vivid gloss black sucks with all the swirls etc etc , only disadvantage to denim is if you scratch it you are screwed unless you repaint the piece, no buffing scratches out.

[[ I read an article from a paint industry insider who explained that because of the lack of a clearcoat the denim paints are prone to and have been having many issues with bikes that are ridden in weather and especially if they are kept outside. ]]

My bike doesn't have denim-style paint, but I'll repeat what someone at a Harley dealership told me....

The gloss black and denim black bikes use the SAME black paint.

The DIFFERENCE is in the clear coat that goes OVER the paint.

One clear coat is glossy;
The other is matte.

Again, that's what I was told. It might have been disinformation...

My Denim Black 08 Dyna was a daily rider and spent near every day out in the sun and weather it looked as good as new when I traded it in on my SG.
I will say be careful around the tins if you wear silver rings they make a mess of it.
