Where did you guys with XM mount your magnetic antenna? Anywhere I put it inside the fairing got poor reception. I finally put mine on the mounting plate of my 3 pocket H-D windshield pouch. Gets good reception now but the antenna is not "hidden" anymore.
The antenna under the fairing on top of the radio will give you good reception. I have used mine all over the West and have had no problems unless I am going straight North with trees or some other obsticles around. I will sometimes lose reception under the same circumstances with my factory installed unit in the pickup.
I tried it over the radio on the bracket with the 2 fuse holders on it, and reception was fuzzy at best. How did you bundle the excess antenna lead? Did you keep it away from the antenna itself?
C Senior,
I'm going to do some more playing around with it soon. I still have to take some pics of my speakers for Pez at Hogtunes. Now that I have this killer stereo I need new speakers to go with it.
Mike, I was at Pez's house last Friday, and he has a stereo in the garage that most guy's would like to have in the rec room. Anyways we put 4 new speakers in my ride, huge improvement!
My excess wire is bundled up and zip tied to another big bundle. I get great reception. The fuzziness above...were you using the FM modulator or the aux input? I had fuzziness when using the FM modulator, when I went to the aux in put...WOW!
Of course, I am playing of HogTunes, and they are the shiznit!

I just installed a Sony 5710 head unit w/XM, and Retro Radio kit from Biketronics. The head unit has RCA jacks for line in input for the XM, so I'm not losing signal to the radio. I have the batwing off now and I have been screwing around with location of the Antenna and lead. Even with the batwing off reception is lousy when its on top of the radio. If I'm standing in front of the bike it loses signal. I'm just going to leave the antenna where I had it, sux I have to look at it.
With this new head unit pumping out the wattage I definately want new speakers. These J&M speakers just arent cutting it. I hope I can get a set of Hogtunes to work on my 96.
