Has anyone tried the short antennas for their Ultra? If so what brand and where did you get it. Did you test your SWR reading on your CB? Did they effect the range of the Radio or CB?
The garage door mangled one of my antennas real bad so I'm thinking short antennas to avoid this trouble again.
got mine from eglidegoodies.com. they are the J&M brand shorties. Work great for both radio and CB. Though i didn't use a meter to check them. They just work in my case, as i was in a large HOG Group and was able to pick up the signal just fine.

I don't have an Ultra and thus have no comment on CB reception, but this antenna was purchased at AutoZone for $7 and works fine. I haven't tested it in extremely remote areas, like Death Valley, but seems to work well riding around this area's rural landscape. I replaced the whip because I kept walking into it every time I walked into my house, and when I tour I may put it back on for the trip.
Got my shorties from my Harley dealer. Short black ones, work better than the stock. 100 bucks [:@]. This was in Santa Maria, Calif. They take all the stocks off and add the short ones. Can't say where they got them though.

I don't have the short antennas but I just check my SWR on the stock antennas. I have an 06 Ultra and you do need an adapter for the meter. Here in the San Jose area, I went to Fry's and got it. The connector on the radio is called a "TNC". I got a TNC to BNC adapter. I could talk but not very far. I could not believe how bad the SWR was, 1.7-1 on channel #1 and over 3-1 on channel #40. Over 3 is in the red where you could damage the radio. I had to cut about 2 inches off the antenna (in 1/8" cuts). I would highly recommend checking your SWR if you use the CB. It only takes about 10 minutes to take the outer fairing off. I am now 1.1-1 on channel #1 and 1.4-1 on channel #40.
Got mine from Freedom Cycles, Reno, NV. Both are 18" rubber duckies. The CB antenna measured SWR at 1.3:1 right out of the box on channel 12. Effective range is about 2 miles. Shorties aren't very good radiators of signal. Best would be a separate top loaded 48" fiberglass whip mounted to the saddlebag guards. Used to get 15 mile range with that setup 30 years ago. But 2 miles works for group riding or talking with other road warriors within range.[8D] http://www.eglidegoodies.com/id10.html
