This has been discussed before, the difficulty and crappy design HD uses in the touring wheels. Going to replace the tires on the 2011 FLHTK with stock wheels in the next month. When I replaced the 1st rear, I put on an angled valve stem, actually dealer installed it, I got from Dennis Kirk. About a 30 degree and about a 7mm stem diameter. While it's better, it is still difficult to check and add air. It has held up well, solid on the wheel, and does not leak.
I have looked at the "motorcycle anchor" product, 82 degree but the site doesn't give the diameter. DK now lists a K&L angles, 90 degree stems that says a 8.4mm diameter stems. From the pictures on-line, they do not apear to be billet. I also can not find who makes them so I suspect they are chinese crap.
Does anyone have any actual information on the K&L stems, and/or is there a source for the motorcycle anchor stems other than order direct.
I will be replacing the stock HD Dunlops with the Dunlop American Elite this winter. No sense in keeping the original valve stems. Very interested in seeing what other stems people are using.
Personally I have no issue with the stock valve stems. Are they a little tight to get to - yes, but not so much to require a different stem. I use a conventional air chuck (approx 70 deg), and an AccuGage gauge with a 90 deg fitting. No problems. You just need the right tools. The wheels I'm talking about are the 28-spoke.
