if the stock mufflers for a non California '07 SG have a Cat in one of them (I'm thinking they don't) and if they would function properly on my '06 SG.
I looked into the right muffler and didn't see the usual honeycomb material that I usually associate with a CAT. I did notice a cone shaped thing toward the end of the Muffler as I was looking into the side that attaches to the head pipe. Almost looked like pedals of a rose. Could this be a type of CAT?
right side is the "cat" muffler on a 07 touring, if it's stock.
Look in the left and you'll see the difference. The left just has a plate that can be punched through. Hence the crossover pipe that allows the exhaust to flow to the right muffler.
There is NOT a cat in either of the mufflers in an 07 Ca. touring bike. I have one.
They do have an evap canister.
I think either the 05 or 06 had a cat in the right side.

So I guess that's what I am seeing in the right '07 muffler. The cone shaped this is an evaporator canister, whatever that is!

no, a non california exhaust from an 07 does not have a catalytic converter in it.
No, the evap. canister is under the battery compartment on Ca. touring bikes.
OK, Got it! I'm getting a muffler education from this forum, great stuff. You are correct about the canister. What I am actually seeing in the left muffler is actually the baffle. The small pipe at the end where the exhaust comes out is sealed off but there are holes on the side to let the exhaust out. The right muffler is very similar inside to the screamin' eagle slip-ons that are currently on the bike.
So it looks like the only difference between SE and stock is the way the left muffler is more restricted. The SE muffler have identical baffles right and left.
