Default TBW doesn't "snap" back

Ok, so I'm asking this question for my Brother, I don't own a throttle by wire and I know nothing about them. He complains that the throttle on his doesn't "snap" back like a traditional cable throttle, and actually sticks sometimes. He has already taken some pressure off the control housing screws, but it still hangs sometimes. He also says it feels like clicks while rotating, which leads me to think the the control module inside the bar is going bad. Is it possible to change a spring or do something else to make it feel more like a cable throttle? He's 500 miles away from me or I would just check the bike out myself.

Did he recently change the grips? I have seen poorly machined grips that bind?

remove the grip & see if it still hangs up..if not apply a small amount of greese on the bar before reinstalling the grip... if its in internal twist control .. replace the control... wires route thru the bars..

When I changed the bars on my street glide the new bars had a burr where they notched the bars for the TBW sender. I ended up taking a file and smoothing the burr until the grips worked smoothly on the bar and then re-installed. No problems at all.

Is it possible if he is still using the stock bars that he slid the grips on too far ? When I installed mine I took care to slid the grips slightly to the right so the grip moved slightly side to side and didn't bind.

Mine doesn't snap all the way to the off position at times but have trained myself to twist it all the way 'off' and don't pay any attention to it anymore. Not getting worse or convince me there's a malfunction at this point so I figure runing with it twisted 'Up' for extended period likely flexes the rheostat temporarily...... it will have to lose all of its spring action before I replace mine.

The clam shell on the throttle side is probably what is binding the throttle. Have him loosen both bolts and see if it works. Then tighten them in different sequences. This is what I have found anyway.
