I'm going to do it myself and with the labor money I save I'll have the inner fairing painted while it's off!
um - no need to remove the inner fairing....Just saying.

FWIW, I had my local HD dealer switch out my bars, with a longer clutch cable. They charged me 3 1/2 hours labor. 8 hours seems a bit much. I'm doing it myself this winter so It'll probably take ME 8 hours.

You'll love the 10s. When I came on here about my PYO bar questions, everyone said the same thing - "go with 12s, blah, blah" I'm glad I didn't. I mean, i'm sure I would have loved them too, but I wasn't wanting to get too far above the fairing. As they sit now, pushed as far forward as they will go without hitting my windshield bag and tweeter pods, they are just at level with the top of the fairing. The burning in my upper back/shoulders is gone, and my hands don't go numb - not even on an 8 hour trip to FL or riding through the mountains.
I'm glad to hear that. That's the whole reason I'm changing bars!

Just to give my piece on this, even up in Washington the independant shops were wanting 7-8 hours of labor to do a full kit for bars. However, it was more along the lines on 650-750 dollars vs what he wants in Waycross. I've heard it's not as terrible as one would think to do it yourself, but horror stories of running into problems of not having the right tools have come into play a lot.

This weekend I just got done pulling my 12 SG fairing apart. I had a friend help me and he has done it before, but I didn't think it was terrible. Just mark everything. If I did it by myself totally I would take a few pictures. Basic tools and take your time. I got my WO578's on, but still need to get the inner fairing painted. I can't wait to put it back together.

you'll be very happy when you get it back together..
should be a pretty easy job with WO 578.....
by far the HARDEST part of my job was pulling the wires through the Monkey Bars...
the rest is just a matter of being organized and methodical...

My brother_in_law and I did his<yaffee 12" monkey bars and it is not all that bad. They make it sound worse than it is. Just sit down and take your time and you will do fine. The dealer by me wants $1000.00 for bars and labor, so you would be better to do it your self and use the money on some more add-ons!

Christmas came early this year ... i just received a box full of stuff witch included Santee 11'' bar, chrome controls and painted inner fairing. I cant wait to start the project with my buddys... i guess a big box of beers, the right tools, methods and patience should be good to finish this project. I cant wait to sit on my bike when it will be done. My only concern is ajusting the clutch once its done and also looks like my new cable for the clutch looks short... it should be ok since i order a kit but still i am sceptical... I guess i will find out when i get there ... but like the other says at least doing it will give me satisfaction and the best of all... money in my pocket. Here in Montreal the dealer is asking over a thousand dollars for the install including the inner fairing.

I hope this helps with the clutch adjustment issue. Not that hard to do really.
