Biker John and Fire-Medic. You two are on the problem. I bought a staples USB to seriel port adapter. Do I load the software that came with it or do I use the Thundermax software? I am really confused over this adapter thing and it is starting to really discourage me. Thunder max only answers emails so I cant get them to walk me through. A little more advise and I think I'll get it. Thanks for what you put so far but I don't see any driver in the Thunderheart folder. Going to download it again and see what happens.
The unit I bought came with a USB cable to hookup form the unit to the laptop/computer, but without downloading the drivers it was a no go. Did your unit come with the USB cable?
If not the third party cable could be causing the issue.......
I had to get the usb to serial port adapter. I got one from Radio shack then went and got one from staples. The staples one is better just not sure on whether to load the software that came with it or load the software from Thundermax. I have both loaded at the moment but not sure what to do. When you got yours what did you have to do to load it? I did get a real small cd but I dont know what it fits. I did by this used off the forum. The cable included was the one that plugs from the usb adapter to the Thundermax. Thanks for sticking with me on this.
I don't know if this will help but when I got mine the reader on my laptop would not access the disk. I used another computer and transferred the files to a flash drive to load on my laptop. When I plugged in the cable to the bike it did not recognize it until I put the cable in the same USB port I used to load the program. I would check to make sure the USB port is the. same one the program is looking for. Good luck

If that small cd says "USB to serial" on it you need to load that on the computer you're using.
OK come to find out the small cd fits the computer cd holder. i was just scared to force it. It has nothing I needed. Catalog Install instructions etc. I already had all this.

This whole thing sounds like a pos to me if you cannot get it to work with supplied instructions. Where is the customer support for this product? You are convincing me to stay clear of Thundermax based on difficulty of your install.
I ran into the same issues, thunder max is aware, gives you a song and dance about their shortfall, oh by the way, after all of your headaches, pulling you hair out and threading to send it back, thunder max will tell you, oh, you need to buy our special cable and adapter, they hit you up for more cash, a week later you receive their special cable, now your ready to rock and roll.
I think they pull this b.s. to get you to pay money to their distributors not the backyard grease monkeys!
I would think (but that gets me in trouble) that a USB to serial adapter of any kind would work. They recommend the cheap version and that is the one they say they sell. It is a good price for one but I did not want to wait for it. I am at a loss now and may have to order theirs. Then what if theirs does the same thing? My install is done my map is ready I just need to connect up. By the way I now have two cables at a cost of about $40.00 apiece.
I bought an adaptor from Radio Shack when I installed mine and had no issues whatsoever. Not sure why yours isn't working but hopefully you get it figured out. The instructions that come with the Tmax kinda suck, but I found a few videos online that made it way easier to understand the initial setup. I'm really happy with mine.
