Default HELP please

After trying to figure out why my bike had a decel pop I noticed some black residue on my muffler where it connects at under the saddle bag. I thought it was a boot scuff but began to think that it could possibly be from a leak. Any ideas of what it could be? It was really tough to get off

From what you're describing, I'd say it's an exhaust leak. You might try replacing the muffler clamp. Harley doesn't recommend reusing their clamps, even though many of us have with great success. Every once in a while there is that one exception.

How do you get a boot scuff under a saddlebag?

From kicking the tire to check for correct pressure.

Where about is the soot? Is it close to where the slip-on connects with the head pipe?

You could take a incense stick (sp) or cigarette smoke to help identify an exhaust leak with the bike running...

Sounds like an exhaust leak. As previously mentioned, replace your exhaust clamp. You should be able to remove the sootmarks with Nevr-Dull, just use very light pressure and a clean micro-fiber cloth.
