Default 01 Roadking question

Hi I tried to search but no luck, must be wording it wrong.I know this has been kicked around a bunch.
I am buying a 01 Roadking picking it up this Sat.

My question is what years are interchangable? from what I read here already I know the 01 axle is 3/4 and 02 is 1 inch.

Thank you
Dave Baker

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the forum. I might be missing something but what do you want to know that is interchangeable? Do you mean what are the differences that were made as the years progressed on the Road Kings?

It depends on the part. Frame is the same through 08.

If that's not his question, it's one I've had. I've never found a good clear source that shows the various changes made throughout the years of production. Sure could help explain some of the differences I've seen and not well understood.

It would also help a Harley novice (me) in hunting parts. Various listings are contradictory as to what periods they cover, like brake pads and shocks.

For example I have a 2000 xlh and I know I can use and exhaust for a 1997 if I choose. I recently sold a Yam Roadstar and I knew anything from 99- 04 or 05 would fit. I am just tring to figure out what would fit, but I think I can already tell there is none to be had,

I saw a nice set of wheels on CL it stated it would fit 00 -08 modle years,

But I read here 01 3/4 axle 02 1 in. so they won't fit. I was looking for a guide or knowledge from someone who might know and share.
Something like 1996 to 2001 all parts interchangable, except engine componets ...
Thanks
