I am looking to do the chrome lower on my FLHX soon. I am torn between going with a smooth slider, like Ness or similar, or going with a stock chromed Harley part with a hidden axle like Yaffe's and a flush fork cap. I know that this is mostly a personal choice as far as looks go but I am looking for feedback on quality, maintenance, etc. as well. Thanks!!
I went with HD parts for both my Super Glide Custom and my Street Glide after looking at several others besides theirs.
I like their look, they are fairly thin-looking in cross-section, which is what I wanted, no issues with them at all, they clean up easily, never used chrome polish on them, and I think they look great.
I decided to do the lowers a week after I bought my bike and did not look into all my options. I went witg the HD chrome ones. After they were installed and I found out the inside of the legs were not fully polished I was pissed and felt I had been ripped off. In my opinion that is not a finished product. After talking talking to another dealer they told me aftermarket forks tend to leak alot because their tolerances were not as tight. I felt like that was BS. I cant imagine all these aftermarket companies would be putting out something that leaks
I would have gone with a hidden axle style if I were to do it again.
Thanks guys! Yeah, I tend to analyze thingsto the extreme, but don't have ulimited funds so I want to make the right choice the first time. I really like the Ness smoothies, and I think that they will definitely "pop" a bit more if I eventually go with a custom wheel. If I go with the stock lowers, it will probably be an exchange on Ebay, the Klock Werks fork cap, and the Yaxle as mentioned earlier.
On my 07, I went with the HD chrome lowers when I got it. Later when I added a 21" front wheel, I added the flush axle and fork cap. I think it cleaned up the front end ALOT. I have the chrome lowers on my 2012 now and plan on doing the same again when I get new wheels for her.

That's what I'm talking about......very nice! I really like the somewhat stock look, but cleaner.
